Today I have a gorgeous new tutorial and Photoshop/PSE fine art action to share with you. I call this one “Sunset Dreams” and I hope you love it as much as I do!
This action adds stunning afternoon/sunset light to your images and is fully adjustable. If you combine it with my “Sublime Sun” overlay set, you can create your own work of sunset art! This action looks great on portraits, landscapes, still life, etc. I have a full step-by-step tutorial posted below.
Open your image and run “Sunset Dreams”.
A Levels adjustment layer will pop up. The settings are set for a “matte-effect” but can be adjusted for your own image. Simple adjust the three sliders under the curve and the black Output Levels slider to taste. You can make further adjustments after the action finishes.
I adjusted the shadows and mid-tone sliders under the curve and slightly moved the Output Levels to lighten the shadows/darks slightly.
I turned on Lighten Shadows and adjusted the opacity to 18%. This slightly brightened the darks.
Then I dialed down Add Light to 30%.
If you want a lighter sunset image, turn off Sunset Extreme as seen in the screenshot above. For this tutorial I kept this layer on at 100%.
You can stop editing now or add one of my gorgeous “Sublime Sun” overlays.
I added the Sun Overlay 2 under the Matte Effect layer.
I put the sun overlay in Screen blending mode and then free-transformed it (Ctrl-T) to fit between the couple.
This is the finished edit! I really love how this turned out.
I hope you enjoy this new action and tutorial. I would love to see your own edits using this tutorial on my Facebook page. It might end up here on my blog as an example with your permission!!!
