Low mileage, US-spec BMW 1M goes on sale

With just 740 units sold in the US, and many out of commission already, the BMW 1M is one of the rarest bimmers on the road today. The highly exclusive sports coupe not only stands out with its limited tag, but also with looks and performance that are unique in the segment.

Even before it launched in 2011, BMW 1M was sold out at most dealerships across the country. And in places where units were still available, outrageous MSPRs were being thrown around, north of $10,000 over the normal price in some cases. Then it launched and the car lived up to its hype, lots of hype we might add, fueled by a genius marketing campaign in Europe and North America.

From the factory, the 1M was released in only three colors: Valencia Orange, Alpine White and Sapphire Black.

BMW was originally going to release the 1M as a limited production model of 2,700 units. Then due to overwhelming demand, the company lifted the cap and produced a total of 6309 cars until production ended in June 2012. Nevertheless, production of the 1M Coup stopped in June 2012, with 740 units sold in the US and a further 220 sold in Canada. Total 6309 cars sold worldwide.

The 1M we have featured today was just listed on BringAtrailer with just under 20,000 miles and was purchased new by the seller, who opted for European delivery and added 5,000 miles in six weeks before shipping the car home to North Carolina.

The twin-turbocharged 3.0L N54 inline-six and 6-speed manual transmission remain stock, though the car has been fitted with KW V3 coilovers. New Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires were installed around 5k miles ago, and the transmission was replaced under warranty due to second gear issues. The car has been regularly maintained since new at Hendrick BMW in Charlotte, North Carolina and remains under a 10 year/70k mile extended warranty purchased by the seller. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale, and this 1M is now being offered with a clean North Carolina title.

The Alpine White body panels are said to wear their original paint, and the seller notes that the car is stored covered and in a garage when not in use. A few chips can be seen on the lower edges of the front spoiler.

The car has received regular service and annual oil and filter changes at the dealer since new, and an oil change was performed just prior to the auction which now sits at $50,000 with 6 days to go. So if you’re on the market for one of the best BMWs ever built, and one of the most fun cars to drive, period, then this is a unique opportunity for any seller in the US.
