The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is definitely on its way to becoming a future classic. Looking at how the future is shaping up, with electric, autonomous cars ruling the world, the engine and the shape of the Gran Coupe 6er will definitely be part of history books and collections around the world. However, to have this car and keep it locked away from prying eyes in a dark garage somewhere is sacrilege. Therefore we applaud the man in the video below for racing it, even if just in a straight line.
The car he’s going up against is a proper supercar by my account, even though not everyone agrees. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the top dog in the line-up of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer and will remain so for a long time. The one we’re looking at is not the latest iteration of the Turbo S but its 3.8-liter turbo flat six engine with 560 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque is more than decent.
In a straight line, the Porsche will be hard to beat from a standstill. Its all-wheel drive setup and super fast 7-speed automatic PDK gearbox allow it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.1 seconds. From there on to its top speed of 198 mph it’s just a matter of some additional seconds. On the other hand, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe we have here is not playing fair.
To start things off, it’s a Competition Package model which means it has 575 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque in standard guise. However, the owner also tuned it with a new ECU map, downpipes and a new air filter, making it reach closer to 700 HP. Sure, the M6 Gran Coupe is considerably heavier but then again, this isn’t even a standing start. Therefore, the result of the race shouldn’t be surprising to anyone, especially since it seems like the Bimmer did launch a bit sooner than the Porsche. Impressive performance nonetheless.
