The new kid on the block is, without a doubt, the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV which is benchmarked against the BMW M3. And while some have found it even better than the Bimmer, others had diverging ideas about the two. Nevertheless, after posting a Nurburgring lap time of 7:32, the Italian proved it’s a fast car, no matter how you look at it. That said, could an even less powerful BMW keep up with it? Could the BMW M2 leave a dent in its armor?
Well, it all depends on the circuit you’re on. While the Nurburgring might have tens of curves and elevation changes, it also includes long straights that play into the strengths of the Alfa. One of those strengths is the number of ponies the V6 under the hood makes. All of them help out when the car is pushed in a straight line. On the other hand, in the twistier parts of the track, the lighter, more agile M2 does get away.
Therefore, the video posted below might end as you’d expect. Sure, the BMW M2 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia play in different leagues but even though the Bimmer is considerably smaller, it also comes with a noticeable deficit in terms of power. Therefore, the fact that it went around the Anglesey track in the UK faster than the Alfa probably relies on its chassis work and intelligent trick differential at the back.
The Giulia QV isn’t the only one that was beaten by the M2 with its 1:40.68 lap time. Other big names include the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S (1:40.80), Jaguar F-Type SVR (1:41.20), Honda NSX (1:41.70) and Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG S (1:41.73). That’s quite the roster of considerably more powerful cars the little M2 beat on this short circuit!
